This is how people with an intention to divide a solid relationship and to cast doubt at each other work: They do not ask the person they have problem with, they ask those around them - their friends, family, anyone close to them.
The Pharisees to Jesus' disciples, regarding their Master's decision:
And when the Pharisees saw it, they said to His disciples, “Why does your Teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”
Matthew 9:11 NKJV
The Pharisees to Jesus, regarding His disciples:
Then the disciples of John came to Him, saying, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but Your disciples do not fast?”
Matthew 9:14 NKJV
As this same passage was told in Mark 2:18 and Luke 5:33, it is believed that the Pharisees may have used John's disciples to speak for them. After all, if they come against each other, the Pharisees are the ones who will benefit.
What really matters is the reaction of the people being attacked.
The Master took care of the situation:
When Jesus heard that, He said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy and not sacrifice.’ For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.”
Matthew 9:12-13 NKJV
“And Jesus said to them, “Can the friends of the bridegroom mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast.”
Matthew 9:15 NKJV
Is your relationship being attacked? Let Jesus fight for you. Hold on to His words and everything you have learned from Him. Now is the right time to see them alive and at work.
